When it comes to food I am quite old fashioned, certain classic recipes are my all time favorite, though every now then I taste some new ingredients, new flavors but still my love for traditional dishes is unconditional. One such recipe is Greek Salad, which is famous in my home with the name "evergreen salad", especially I am never bored of Greek Salad, I can happily finish a bowl of Greek Salad despite of any Gourmet meal on the table.

Greek Salad, in its most familiar guise, is a cool, crisp, refreshing collection of colored vegetables tossed with a piquant vinaigrette dressing. The possibilities, however, don't end here, there are endless combination of vegetables and cheese for the Greek Peasant Salad, I will come to Peasant part later. Instead of feta or goat cheese I used homemade herbed paneer (cottage cheese) to give a fusion twist to Greek Salad and for sure this herb paneer has given new dimension to classic flavors.

Greek Salad is also called Greek Peasant Salad as during Middle Ages this salad was quite popular among the certain class of famers and laborers in Greece, they use to make it from farm fresh produce of vegetables and some homemade goat cheese but these days most of the chefs like to call it Greek Salad only.

Serve this cool Mediterranean - style dish alongside grilled chicken, fish or pork, or on its own with crusty bread. I have grilled the bell peppers for the salad but that is totally personal choice, even if you like salad vegetables can be dressed in vinaigrette few hours before serving for more matured flavors, season with salt and pepper just before serving.

Warm or cold, grilled or marinated, feta or goat cheese, make your Greek Salad the way you like and enjoy!!!
